Marie and Harry - Keepers of the Pomeranians!
Flashingstar is located in Lombardy, Ontario, Canada. I first got involved with breeding dogs in 1963. I started with German Shepherd Dogs, then I purchased an English Springer Spaniel for my son so he could hunt with her. One day I attended a dog show with a friend of mine found and fell in love with a Keeshond. Although I continued to show other breeds (Pekes, Poms) for various clients both in Canada and the USA, my breed was Keeshonden, which I bred and showed under the kennel name of Taybrooke. Early in the 1990s severe arthritis in both hands made grooming the Keeshonden both difficult and painful so I started to look for a breed that had all the charm of character of the Keeshond but smaller and easier to groom. Naturally, I gravitated towards their tiny orange relative, the Pomeranian, a toy dog with a giant personality. My first Pomeranian, a girl, was purchased from a local breeder in 1995 had some nice qualities but was bigger than I wanted to show in the ring. I eventually bred this girl, Pica, to AM/CAN CH Fluffalove’s Storm Trooper and she produced two nice puppies, one of which, Flashingstar’s Forever Amber has been significant in my breeding program.

Showing and sharing our lives with our Pomeranians is a great source of joy for us.
From years of both showing dogs and wintering in Florida I had become friends with Tony Cabrara and Fabian Arentes of Starfire fame who finally decided to entrust me with one of their boys. In 1995 I became the proud owner of Starfire’s I’m Sexy Too, a son of a past Westminster Best of Breed Winner, Starfire’s I’m Too Sexy. I chose the call name “Flash” for this little rich orange boy as he moved so fast that you just saw a flash of orange running around the room. Flash is my foundation stud and inspired my kennel of Flashingstar, for as a Canadian/American Champion with 27 BIS, in excess of 150 Group 1’s, and Speciality wins in both Canada and the USA and the sire of 6 Champion children to date, he is truly a Star.

My Pomeranians live in the house but have their own special exercise area complete with a “jungle gym” consisting of a tunnel with ramps and platforms of different levels for them to play on. Weather permitting they spend as much time outside playing as possible. In the winter they spend they’re outside time on the deck at the back of the house that we can keep clear of snow as their exercise area is often completely buried in the white stuff.

We have produced a litter of 2 boys and 1 girl from Flash and bred to Can. Ch. Flashingstar’s Foever Amber. Both boys have gone on to obtain their Canadian championship; Shooter actually has both Canadian and US Championship status, and both are multi group winner, specialty winners and Best in Show winners. Shooter and Chancey were absolute naturals at walking on the leach together so at 8 months of age I tried them in a International Brace Competition just for the fun of it. To my ultimate surprise they won Best Brace In Show. This has never been accomplished with Pomeranian least of all puppies.
